A Little History

In 1983 the Alberta Government dammed the Red Deer River just SW of Innisfail. This resulted in the creation of Gleniffer Lake, a beautiful deep body of crystal clear water 7.5 kms long and up to 1 .5 kms wide and over 100 feet deep!  The Westergaard family was the benefactor of this occurrence, as their century old farmland had now become lakefront property with over 5000 feet of shoreline. Uncertain initially as to what to do with it, they elected to “land bank” the property until they had carefully considered their options. Over time, they came to realize that there was a significantly increased demand for recreational property in central Alberta, Thus the idea was born to develop the property into Gleniffer Lake Resort & Country Club was born!

The volunteer Social Committee organizes activities for all age groups designed to bring the owners together to have fun and get to know one another.  Activities include dances, BBQ’s, live lobster feasts, pig roasts, corn roasts, weenie roasts, teen nights, beach parties, poker rallies and the list goes on…

Although you have left the hustle and bustle of the city far behind, you are only minutes away from
everything you need in nearby Spruce View. There you will find a new CO-OP with a fully stocked
supermarket, hardware store, building supplies and gas bar. Several restaurants, a saloon, liquor outlets hair salon, post office and fire hall round out the services available. And if they don’t have what you need you are only a 25 minute drive from Innisfail where there are banks, numerous merchants, restaurants several shopping malls and a regional hospital.  And Red Deer is only 40 minutes away.
